Nanni Moretti is one of Italy's most original film directors of the last two decades, always independent in his way of thinking and in his film- making activity (he is a director, screenplay writer, producer, actor... a real self-sufficient). Few can be as ironic about modern society as he is, and his ability in telling stories and portraying "true" characters is unique. Thanks to cult-movies such as Ecce Bombo and Palombella Rossa, and original stories such as The Mass Is Ended or Bianca, Nanni Moretti has conquered an increasing audience in Italy, before eventually receiving international credit for Dear Diary, which amused and conquered audiences from France to the US. These pages are a tribute to a "splendido quarantenne" (splendid 40 years-old man) whose movies have made people laugh and think for more than twenty years. |
